Social and Emotional Learning – SEL

Social and Emotional Learning is the process through which we acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

At St John Bosco’s we implement a range of initiatives and strategies to nurture our students social and emotional learning. Weekly lessons take place in class developing students self and social awareness, responsible decision making, self management and relationship skills. We teach our students about mindsets and the importance of applying a growth mindset.  The Learning Pit is also used as a tool to help children work through challenging learning tasks. Our students use the language and understandings of the Zones of Regulation to self regulate and to do what needs to be done in the best state for the situation at hand.
