English

It is our strong belief that all students at St John Bosco’s are given the opportunity to reach their full potential in the acquisition of proficient English skills.

These skills transfer across all curriculum areas. We aim to instil in every student an expectation of success. When students achieve success, their self esteem grows and as a result they become more engaged in the literacy task. Your child will be learning across three areas: Reading and Viewing, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

We believe each child learns developmentally and therefore individual learning needs are targeted. Through ongoing assessment we identify the child’s strengths and challenges and together with the student we establish personal goals in the areas of reading and writing. Students are encouraged to articulate their goal and explain the steps to achieve their goal.

Our SJB English curriculum is based on:

  • Victorian Curriculum

  • Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark System (BAS)

  • Levelled Literacy Intervention Program

  • Smart Spelling Program

  • PM Writing program

  • PAT-R reading

  • Mini Lit, Initial Lit, Macq Lit

Our aim is to develop a love of reading across all year levels. All students will have a weekly library session where the classroom teacher will share quality literature and the students may borrow two books on a weekly basis.
